Information for Beginners
Do you think you might want to learn how to fence? First-time fencers are always welcome at the Buffalo Fencing Academy! We also love to see people who have had some experience with the sport in the past, and are looking for an opportunity to "get back into it."
Classes
The BFA regularly offers group classes for beginners and intermediate fencers at various levels. Courses typically include 8 weekly classes of 60 or 90 minutes each (youth/adult). Activities are varied, and may include instruction, drills, games, and exercises to improve overall fitness.
Classes are a great way to learn the sport in a fun environment where students can help each other grow and develop. Groups are co-ed, and may include a wide variety of ages, so they are perfect for families who want to learn to fence together.

Lessons (One-on-One)
The BFA offers one-on-one lessons by appointment and during open practice for students at all levels, including beginners and first-time fencers. Lessons are typically 25 minutes in length, but students may choose to double-up.
Because private lessons allow students to receive individual attention, they often allow the student to learn more quickly as the instruction is tailored to their unique needs and abilities. Further, private lessons may be scheduled with flexibility, depending on the availability and time constraints of the student.
